Collisional deexcitation of exotic hydrogen atoms in highly excited states . II . Cascade calculations

چکیده
The atomic cascades in µ − p and ¯ pp atoms have been studied in detail using new results for the cross-sections of the scattering of highly excited exotic atoms from molecular hydrogen. The cascade calculations have been done with an updated version of the extended standard cascade model that computes the evolution in the kinetic energy from the beginning of the cascade. The resulting X-ray yields, kinetic energy distributions, and cascade times are compared with the experimental data.

Collisional deexcitation of exotic hydrogen atoms in highly excited states . I . Cross - sections
The deexcitation of exotic hydrogen atoms in highly excited states in collisions with hydrogen molecules has been studied using the classical-trajectory Monte Carlo method. The Coulomb transitions with large change of principal quantum number n have been found to be the dominant collisional deex-citation mechanism at high n. The molecular structure of the hydrogen target is shown to be essentia...

The Coulomb deexcitation of light exotic atoms in collisions with hydrogen atoms has been studied in the framework of the fully quantum-mechanical close-coupling method for the first time. The calculations of the l-averaged cross sections have been performed for (µp) n and (µd) n atoms in the states with the principal quantum number n = 3 ÷ 8 and relative energies region E = 0.01 ÷ 100 eV. The ...
متن کاملFar-infrared Rydberg-Rydberg transitions in a magnetic field: Deexcitation of antihydrogen atoms
The dynamics of de excitation between highly excited Rydberg states 15 n 60 of Rb in a magnetic field of 0.85 ±0.05 T is studied with far-infrared pulses 90–110 and 50 m originating from a free electron laser. We measured the excitation spectrum to states around n=40 from a deeper bound state near n=25. Moreover, starting from a highly excited state 30 n 60 below and in the n-mixing regime we i...
متن کاملBombardment Induced Electron-Capture Processes at Sodium Halide Surfaces
Discrete features observed in the energy distribution of electrons emitted from ion-bombarded sodium halide surfaces can be attributed to a new type of collisional deexcitation mechanism. Such a mechanism involves sodium atoms in bombardment-excited autoionizing states that are the result of cascade collisions within the crystal lattice. This deexcitation process, in contrast to that for a meta...
